ROAD TO INSTRUCTOR

Your path to becoming a professional snowboard instructor.

Becoming a snowboard instructor means turning your passion into a profession. It's a journey that requires commitment, technical preparation and a willingness to keep challenging yourself.

I created Road to Instructor to help experienced snowboarders prepare for the selection exams required to enter professional snowboard instructor training courses in Italy.

Through targeted training sessions, technical exercises and video analysis, we'll work on your strengths and areas for improvement, developing a program suited to your current level and goals.

The aim is to approach the selection exams well prepared, with a better understanding of your abilities and the technical standards required.

Who Is It For?

Road to Instructor is designed for experienced snowboarders who want to pursue a career as professional snowboard instructors.

You can join if you're preparing for an upcoming selection exam, want to start training well in advance or have already attempted the exams and need to improve specific aspects of your riding.

You don't need perfect technique to begin. However, you should already be confident riding on different types of slopes and willing to work on your habits, even when that means changing movements you've been using for years.

That's where the journey begins: understanding your current level and what it will take to reach the required standard.

What We'll Work On

Preparing for instructor selection exams isn't just about learning how to perform a series of exercises. It's about developing strong technical foundations, understanding your movements and being able to execute them consistently in different conditions.

Our training will focus on five key areas.

Fundamental Technique and Body Position

We'll work on balance, posture, pressure distribution and board control, identifying and correcting inefficient movement patterns.

Turning and Carving

We'll focus on edge control, turn shape, progressive movements and the ability to adapt your technique to different slopes and speeds.

Selection-Specific Exercises

We'll practise the technical tasks required by the relevant selection exams, analysing each exercise and focusing on execution quality.

Video Analysis

We'll use video footage to review your riding, understand technical mistakes and track your progress throughout training.

Exam Simulations

Once you're ready, we'll practise in conditions similar to the selection exams, focusing on precision, consistency and performing under pressure.

Training will be adapted to your abilities and the specific requirements of the exams you're preparing for.

A Program Built Around Your Needs

Every snowboarder has a different background. Some come from years of competition, others have developed their skills through teaching or recreational riding, while some have already attempted a selection exam without achieving the result they wanted.

That's why I don't offer the same training plan to everyone.

1. Initial Assessment

We'll start by discussing your experience and goals. Through a technical assessment, we'll identify your strengths, difficulties and training priorities.

2. Technical Preparation

We'll organise targeted training sessions, either in small groups or individually, combining exercises, demonstrations, feedback and video analysis.

3. Final Exam Preparation

As the selection exams approach, we'll focus on the required tasks, working towards greater precision, efficiency and consistency.

The number and frequency of training days will depend on your level, availability and the time remaining before your exams.

Mattia Canovi
Snowboard Instructor & FISI Coach

I've been a professional snowboard instructor since 2011 and I'm a FISI Level 2 coach, currently completing the training pathway towards Level 3.

Over the years, I've worked in snowboard teaching, coaching and technical development with riders of different ages and abilities, from young athletes beginning their competitive journey to experienced competitors.

I created Road to Instructor to share this experience with snowboarders who want to become professional instructors.

My coaching approach goes beyond simply correcting an exercise. I want every rider to understand what they're doing, why a movement works and how they can improve it.

I believe technical awareness is one of the most valuable skills for anyone looking to make snowboard teaching their profession.

Where We Train

Our main training location is Cervinia, a ski area offering a wide variety of slopes, gradients and snow conditions, making it an excellent environment for technical development.

Depending on the season and training objectives, sessions may also be organised in other ski resorts.

Schedule and Participation

There is no single fixed training calendar. Sessions are organised according to demand, participants' levels and upcoming selection exam dates.

You can join small-group training sessions or arrange individual coaching.

Program duration, number of training days and prices are agreed upon and communicated before training begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I already need to be at the required level to pass the exams?

No. The program is designed to identify the areas you need to improve. However, you should already have good snowboarding experience and be confident on slopes of different difficulty levels.

Can I join even if I haven't decided when to take the exams?

Absolutely. Starting early allows you to work progressively and develop stronger technical foundations without the pressure of an upcoming exam.

Can I book individual training?

Yes. Both individual coaching and small-group sessions are available.

How are prices determined?

Prices depend on the training format and number of sessions. You'll receive a proposal before confirming your participation.

Does the program guarantee passing the selection exams?

No. Road to Instructor is an independent technical preparation program. Admission to professional instructor training depends on official exams and the assessment of the relevant examination boards.
